Bio

Steve Beard spends most of his time writing and speaking about the faith and popular culture. For more than 20 years, he has been a religion and pop culture reporter. He has been the editor of Good News — a magazine for United Methodists — since February 1991.

Through ROCKADERBY, Beard is one of the official photographers for the Houston Roller Derby — as well as for neighboring leagues. He has shot roller derby bouts in Texas, California, and Hawaii. Beard was one of the official photographers at 2014 Blood & Thunder Roller Derby World Cup in Dallas.

Beard created Thunderstruck.org in 1996 to chronicle the big-bang of rock ‘n’ roll, religion, social justice, art, and the exploration of a seemingly countercultural urge for a spiritual life.

From 2005 to 2007, he was also the editor-in-chief of Risen, an interview and art-based magazine profiling actors, surfers, musicians and skateboarders.

He has been a movie reviewer and pop culture contributor to National Review Online and BreakPoint.com. His articles have appeared in Charisma, Discipleship Journal, The Washington Times, and World magazines.

He is a contributing author to Spiritual Journeys: How Faith Has Influenced Twelve Music Icons (Relevant, 2003) where he wrote chapters on Bono, Johnny Cash, and Al Green. He was also asked to contribute the forward to Steve Stockman’s book, Walk On: The Spiritual Journey of U2 (Relevant Books, 2001).

Prior to holding his current position, he served as research assistant at the Institute on Religion and Democracy and the Ethics and Public Policy Center. Both institutions are located in Washington, D.C.

Steve lives in Spring, Texas.

Forever love Thunderstruck! But that is not my main reason for writing. You stoked and surprised me the other day when you left a message on my phone. What stoked me less was that there was no return phone #. Please send me one and I’ll contact you.
    Much love, bro
